Bearded Vulture

After being extinct for 70 years, bearded vultures are now again a reliable sight in parts of the Alps. At a day trip to the Hohe Tauern mountains in Austria and a simple hike in a beautiful valley, the impressive raptors often can watched in surprisingly little distance.
The usual sightings reach from soaring in thermals on sunny mountain slopes over the crushing of bones on rocks to aerial attacks on griffon vultures and golden eagles. Additionally marmots, chamois and even ibex can be seen regularly – altogether a multitude of exciting wildlife in a small area.
